A renewed communal clash between the Ifon-Orolu and Ilobu communities in Osun State has left two individuals with gunshot injuries and displaced several residents in the Odoje and Golden Gate areas of Ifon.
Jide Akinyooye, Secretary of the Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union’s Board of Trustees, condemned the attack, describing it as a disregard for human life.
He stated, “Gunshots were heard in Odoje and Golden Gate, forcing residents to flee. Two people sustained gunshot injuries. Despite efforts by the Osun State Government to resolve the Opapa buffer zone land dispute, violence persists, endangering innocent lives.”
Akinyooye urged the government to take decisive action, provide security for Orolu residents, and hold perpetrators accountable.
In a counterstatement, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, Chief Adegoke Ogunsola, accused Ifon of instigating the violence.
He alleged that gunmen from Ifon-Orolu attacked Ganga Akinpororo, near Golden Gate, destroying property and displacing residents.
Ogunsola commended security agencies for restoring calm and urged them to remain vigilant to prevent further violence. He also revealed that Ifon had issued a 14-day ultimatum for Ilobu residents to vacate a disputed land, threatening renewed clashes if ignored.
Authorities are working to maintain peace and resolve the conflict.
