The Osun State Judiciary has refuted a viral claim that a Magistrate Court in the state fined a lady N150,000 for failing to visit her boyfriend after receiving N3,000 as transport fare.
In the widely circulated fake news trending on social media over the weekend, it was alleged that one Rhoda Adu collected N3,000 from Olapitan Sola for transport and subsequently switched off her phone without visiting him. It was further claimed that a Magistrate, Akogun Oludare, ordered her to pay Sola N150,000.
Reacting to the report, the Chief Registrar, F.I. Omisade, described the claim as “fake and disturbing.”
He clarified that there is no Magistrate by the name Akogun Oludare in the Osun State Judiciary and that no such order was ever issued.
According to Omisade, “The attention of the Osun State High Court has been drawn to the fake and disturbing news circulating on social media.
“It was widely reported between Thursday, 23rd January, and Saturday, 25th January, 2025, that one Akogun Oludare, a Magistrate sitting in the Ilesa Magisterial District, ordered a lady to pay her boyfriend N150,000 for collecting N3,000 as transport fare, a promise she failed to fulfill.”
He further stated, “There is no Magistrate known as Akogun Oludare in the Osun State Judiciary. Furthermore, no Magistrate in Osun State has ever given such an order.
“This news is misleading and untrue as it relates to any Magistrate in Osun State. The general public is advised to disregard this report and discard it as baseless information.”
