Osun LG crisis: APC accuses NULGE of colluding with Governor Adeleke

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) of conspiring with Governor Ademola Adeleke to undermine local government administration in the state.
In a statement made available to journalists by its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that some NULGE members, who disagreed with the union’s actions, formed the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers (ACLGW) and resumed work at their respective local government offices. However, the NULGE leadership allegedly denied them membership and subsequently announced their indefinite suspension.
The APC questioned the legality of NULGE’s actions, asking whether it was appropriate for a union to collaborate with the state government while collecting salaries without working.
The statement partly reads: “Another question is whether it is plausible for the leadership of a state workers’ union to be so deeply involved in partisan politics that it becomes an appendage and megaphone of the ruling party.
“The members of Osun NULGE should realize that Dr. Ogungbangbe, under whose tenure the union has become factionalized, is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and can continue practicing his profession while local government offices remain shut.
“It is unjust to criticize the leadership of ACLGW, who have shown patriotism by stepping up to provide necessary leadership in the state, especially when Governor Adeleke’s administration has failed at the local government level.
“What is happening in Osun State under Governor Adeleke is more troubling than the crisis in Rivers State. Local government administration is at a standstill due to the state government’s refusal to comply with the landmark judgment of February 10, 2025, which reinstated APC local government chairmen and councillors.
“The Osun NULGE has no justifiable reason to continue its illegal sit-at-home action based on ‘security concerns’ that exist only in the imagination of Ogungbangbe and his allies. We urge the courageous and patriotic leadership of the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers to remain calm, focused, and committed to their duties, knowing that their fundamental right to association is protected under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”
