Osun LG crisis: APC urges AGF to reject PDP chairmen

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to disregard a letter introducing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors.

The letter, issued by the Osun State Government through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Tesleem Igbalaye, was also addressed to the Accountant General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Yemi Cardoso. It urged the Federal Government to recognize the newly elected PDP local government officials, stating that their election was conducted in line with regulations.

However, the APC dismissed the letter as shameful, arguing that the individuals introduced were impostors since no valid election took place.

In a statement, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, emphasized that the Court of Appeal’s ruling on February 10, 2025, reinstated the APC-led local government executives elected in October 2022, leaving no vacancies for a new election.

The statement criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for disregarding the Attorney-General’s previous advice against conducting the election, only to now seek his approval for the newly introduced officials.

“We urge the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Accountant-General, and the CBN Governor to disregard this illegitimate introduction of impostors, as the election was unnecessary and illegal,” the statement read.

The APC further described the officials introduced in the letter as “power-mongering clowns” and insisted that only the reinstated APC chairmen and councillors remain the legally recognized local government officials in Osun State.

The party urged federal authorities to disregard the letter from the Osun State Government, emphasizing that the reinstated APC officials are committed to delivering good governance at the local government level.
