The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to enhance security and restore law and order.

Egbetokun condemned, in the strongest terms, the violent actions that disrupted the peace, resulting in the destruction of property and the unfortunate loss of innocent lives.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to the statement, “The Police recognizes that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the wellbeing of citizens, and hereby affirms its commitment to identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of these acts, ensuring they face the full weight of the law.”

Egbetokun issued a stern warning to those threatening the peace and stability of Osun State, stating that the Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism, or anarchy.

He said, “The perpetrators of these criminal acts will be apprehended and made to face the consequences of their unjustified actions. Citizens must remain calm as normalcy is being restored.”

Egbetokun further urged Osun indigenes, leaders, and stakeholders to shun violence and go about their legitimate businesses.

He emphasized that the judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of all electoral disputes and that political actors must respect and abide by its rulings, upholding the rule of law and democratic principles.

The Force reiterated its commitment to clamping down on violent actors intent on creating chaos and disrupting law and order in any part of the country. The situation in Osun will be closely monitored, and measures will be enforced to ensure a safe environment for all residents.
