Osun LG crisis: NULGE faction urges workers to resume work Monday

A faction of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Osun State has called on all local government workers in the state to resume work immediately. The group condemned the shutdown of local government services, describing it as irresponsible and detrimental to the public.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Saturday, members of the Association of Concerned Local Government Staff in Osun accused NULGE President Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe of acting unilaterally by ordering the closure of local government secretariats, maternity centers, and marriage registries without consulting workers through a congress.
They alleged that his actions were driven by personal interest rather than the welfare of the union.
Speaking on behalf of the group, State Coordinator Adedayo Adekunle and Secretary Akin Adepoju lamented that, for over a month, citizens needing marriage certificates, local government identification, and other essential documents had been denied access.
They also noted that employees awaiting study leave had been left in limbo due to the withdrawal of services.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to serving any government legally in power, whether APC or PDP, emphasizing that their duty was public service delivery, not political allegiance.
The group urged all local government workers to resume work immediately and assured them of security by working with law enforcement agencies to protect lives and property.
In addition, they vowed to challenge Ogungbangbe’s alleged violations of the union’s constitution in court, stating that his actions should not set a bad precedent for civil service and NULGE administration.
