A former All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Chairman in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, Hon. Remi Abass, who was one of the allegedly reinstated chairmen, and two others have been reportedly killed.
Abass was killed on Monday at the Irewole Local Government Secretariat in Ikire during an exchange of gunfire that left several others injured.
Confirming the killing of Abass, a chieftain of the APC, Mr. Jamiu Olawumi, said Abass was attempting to cross over to the secretariat to resume office when he was killed. He called on the Federal Government and the Inspector-General of Police to intervene.

Similarly, two members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) were killed in Boripe Local Government Area, Iragbiji.
It was gathered that the crisis occurred when supporters of the APC and PDP clashed over the resumption of sacked APC council chairmen and councillors who were said to have been reinstated by a court order.

The State Commissioner for Government Affairs and Protocol, Mr. Olusoji Ajeigbe, confirmed to newsmen in Iragbiji town, the headquarters of Boripe Local Government Area, that two PDP loyalists were shot dead by members of the opposition party.
Ajeigbe, who appealed to President Bola Tinubu to address the situation before it escalates further, said the hoodlums had vowed to return to the secretariat.

When contacted, Osun State Police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola said security personnel have been deployed to the affected areas to restore peace and order.
