Osun LG election: PDP directs supporters to vote, slams AGF over comments

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has directed its members and supporters to go out en masse and vote for the candidates of their choice on Saturday, February 22, 2015.
The party emphasized the importance of exercising the fundamental right to vote in a constitutional democracy and condemned comments made by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, suggesting that the elections should not proceed.
A statement signed by the chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Sunday Bisi, on Friday described Fagbemi’s remarks as a politically motivated attempt to destabilize Osun State and take revenge on its peace-loving citizens for voting the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of power in 2022.
The PDP accused Fagbemi, who led the legal team of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the legal battles over the 2022 governorship election, of using his position to further partisan interests.
The PDP said the Attorney General is not a court of law, and his opinion cannot be considered flawless given his history of partisan involvement.
Bisi said, “Lateef Fagbemi is not without blemished opinions as a legal practitioner before he was assigned the job of Attorney General. Such blemished tendencies cannot be washed away by virtue of his current position.
“He is human with vested interests, one of which he just displayed again over the Osun local government issues. If anything, Lateef and the beneficiaries of his malicious opinion should test such sub judice stances in a court of law after the conduct of the local government election in Osun State.”
The PDP chairman, who expressed readiness to participate in the February 22 election, encouraged members and supporters of the party to remain peaceful while exercising their electoral franchise.
