Osun LG election: Waste of taxpayers’ money – APC chieftain

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has described the recently conducted Osun State Local Government election as a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), argued that the election, held on Saturday, was illegal and an exercise in futility.

He cited the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal in Akure, which reinstated the previously sacked APC council chairmen, asserting that the election should not have been conducted in the first place.

“At the appropriate time, the state government will be asked to account for the funds wasted on this election,” Oyintiloye said.

Oyintiloye also appealed to the Federal Government to release monthly local government allocations to the reinstated APC chairmen in the state.

He emphasized that these funds were necessary to fast-track development at the grassroots level, which had been neglected since the chairmen were removed in 2022.

“With less than nine months left in their tenure, the timely release of allocations will enable them to execute key developmental projects,” he added.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his professional handling of security issues and the prevention of power abuse in Osun.

“Since 2022, when the chairmen were sacked, there has been no tangible development at the grassroots. Now that the Court of Appeal has reinstated them, the Federal Government should start releasing their monthly allocations,” he said.

“This is the time for the people at the grassroots to feel the impact of governance, which has been absent for too long. I also commend the Inspector-General of Police for ensuring peace in the state and handling security matters professionally.”

Oyintiloye also praised the reinstated council chairmen for resuming duties despite alleged intimidation and harassment by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He urged local government staff to return to work, assuring them that adequate security measures had been put in place.

“There is enough security for them to perform their duties. Their resumption will enable the chairmen to settle down and deliver the dividends of democracy that people at the grassroots have been yearning for,” he stated.
