Osun LG polls: APC berates PDP over alleged disregard of court order

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government over an injunction allegedly granted by a State High Court sitting in Ilesa.
The APC Chairman in Osun State, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, described the court order as “a joke taken too far,” calling it “fake and inglorious.”
He, therefore, urged security agencies to supervise the local government election slated for February 22, 2025.
Lawal argued that Nigeria’s legal framework does not permit a lower court to override an Appeal Court judgment.
He also expressed shock that a court could be used for what he termed “absurdity and social retrogression,” alleging that the executive arm of government had influenced the ruling due to its disregard for the rule of law.
The APC chairman advised Governor Ademola Adeleke to avoid being misled by individuals he described as “ignorant” and only interested in exploiting him for frivolous purposes.
He questioned how a judge aware of a superior court’s unanimous judgment could allow an abuse of court processes.
Furthermore, Lawal criticized the PDP, insisting that local government councils in Osun State do not have existing vacancies to justify the planned election. He condemned the move, alleging that it was being organized and supervised by a PDP aspirant in the 2023 State Assembly election.
He urged the public to disregard the election, stating, “I can’t imagine a state in the highly civilized South-West drifting into lawlessness and perverting the rule of law due to the ineptitude of its leadership.”
Lawal called on security agencies to enforce the appellate court’s judgment and ensure the protection of lives and property.
