Osun LG polls: Caretaker committee chairmen resign en masse

Ahead of the Local Government elections scheduled for February 2025 in Osun State, nearly all the chairmen of caretaker committees have resigned from their positions. This mass resignation comes as these officials prepare to contest in the upcoming council polls.
A source close to the government, who confirmed this development, revealed that the chairmen stepping down are those intending to run for the local government chairmanship positions.
The source, who requested anonymity, stated that these resignations are strategic moves to facilitate their participation in the elections.
Among the resigned officials is Hon. Adewale Adeyinka, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Odo-Otin Local Government Council in Okuku.
In his resignation letter dated July 17, 2024, which was obtained by WESTERN POST, Adeyinka expressed his intent to pursue further opportunities to serve his community.
Addressed to Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Osun State House of Assembly, and the Secretariat of Odo-Otin Local Government, the letter reads: “I hope this letter finds you well. It is with a sense of duty and respect for our democratic principles that I write to tender my resignation from my position as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Odo-Otin Local Government, effective immediately.
“As I move on to pursue further opportunities to serve my people, I want to assure you that the good work we have started will not end. I remain committed to supporting the growth and development of Odo-Otin Local Government in any capacity I can. It has been an honor to serve, and I am proud of the progress we have made together.”
This wave of resignations marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Osun State as the local government elections approach.
