Osun: NANS demands suspension of SSA over alleged misconduct, fund misuse
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Osun Axis, has called for the suspension of Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Students’ Matters, Oladejo Basiru Aderoju, over allegations of misconduct and misuse of government funds.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, NANS JCC Osun Axis Chairman Ogungbe Taiwo accused Aderoju of sponsoring a factional election within the association and collaborating with opposition groups to disrupt peace in the state. Ogungbe emphasized that the association has yet to transition power and that the legitimate Conventional Planning Committee (CPC) remains responsible for overseeing the election process.
He further alleged that Aderoju was involved in sponsoring thugs to kidnap student leaders and orchestrating arrests by the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing him of misappropriating funds allocated for legitimate purposes.
“The Congress, as the highest decision-making authority, has empowered the Chairman to constitute the Conventional Planning Committee (CPC) to ensure a seamless transition of leadership,” Ogungbe stated. “Unfortunately, certain individuals, driven by a disruptive agenda, have misused the association’s name to conduct an unauthorized election, falsely claiming to represent NANS.”
He added that the Osun State Government, through the Secretary to the State Government and the Governor’s office, had explicitly prohibited factional elections and warned against them. However, Aderoju allegedly defied this directive, collaborating with APC elements to sponsor a factional election.
“The Congress condemns Oladejo Basiru Aderoju’s actions, which include sponsoring thugs to intimidate student leaders and orchestrating DSS arrests, stemming from his misuse of government funds intended for lawful purposes,” Ogungbe concluded.
