The Primary Health Centre (PHC), Oke Gada, Ede, Osun State, has recorded its first successful emergency Caesarean section (C-section), resulting in the safe delivery of a 3.5kg baby boy.
The emergency procedure was conducted at about 2:30 p.m. on Friday, after complications arose during the delivery of Mrs Adeniyi Rukayat, who had received antenatal care at the facility since May.
Both mother and baby were said to be in good condition after the surgery, which was led by Dr Ashafa Musa, with the support of Sanni Mudasiru and student intern Mariam Olanbiwonninu.
Mrs Adeniyi had been managed at the PHC throughout her pregnancy, with a vaginal delivery initially anticipated. However, complications developed, requiring urgent surgical intervention by the medical team.
The baby’s father, Mr Adeniyi Kehinde, commended the medical team for their diligence, commitment and professionalism in ensuring the safe delivery of his wife’s baby.
He also praised the Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Adeleke for upgrading primary healthcare centres across the state, saying the service saved his family significant financial costs.
“A procedure of this nature would have cost us hundreds of thousands of naira in a private hospital. We are grateful that my wife received this quality service free of charge here at the PHC,” he said.
The Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Sina Igbalaye, who visited the facility after the operation, commended the medical team and other health officials, saying the successful procedure demonstrated that the government’s investment in primary healthcare was delivering results.
