Osun Police arrest highway robbers, telecom vandals

The Osun Police Command has apprehended two suspected highway robbers and several telecom vandals in separate operations.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adeoye Akeem Adeola, said that on March 3, 2025, at around 7:20 a.m., the police arrested Wasiu Kehinde, 41, and Yusuf Makinde Idris, 29, both ex-convicts, for allegedly robbing a victim who boarded their vehicle in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, along with an accomplice who is still at large, pretended to be passengers traveling to Osogbo. When the victim boarded the vehicle at Ikire, they held her hostage, tied her hands and legs, and demanded her ATM card and cash.

The robbers later attempted to flee towards the Ibadan axis. However, on their way back to Balogun area, Ikire, the vehicle was involved in an accident. A swift collaboration between the police and members of the public led to the arrest of the two suspects, while the third suspect escaped. The police recovered a Mitsubishi Space Wagon with registration number MUS 495 JR, an Android Huawei phone, and a piece of cloth as exhibits.

Telecom vandalism case

In another operation, the police arrested Sunday Kayode Abiodun, 30, for conspiring with others to burgle the ATC Network site in the Unity area of Ikire on January 2, 2025. The suspects allegedly stole 15 inverter batteries worth ₦75 million.

Abiodun was arrested with the help of security personnel at the site when he returned with other suspects on January 15, 2025, to steal solar batteries used to power the communication mast. The other suspects managed to escape.

A discreet investigation led to the arrest of five additional suspects: Akeem Sakariyau, 42; Bankole Monsuru, 29; Akanbi Femi, 38; Balogun Lateef, 30; and Ojetola Abdulganiyu, 47.

The police recovered one Opel car with registration number EPE 96 HN (Lagos), a pipe wrench, cutting pliers, a screwdriver, an OPC ID card, a UBA ATM card, and a reflective jacket as exhibits.
