Osun State Police Command has resolved to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of one Afolabi Abiola, who was allegedly shot dead by a police officer in the state.

Osun State Commissioner, Olawale Olokode in a statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Yemisi Opalola on Monday said the command has begun investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of Abiola.

The commissioner said he has met with the state government and the civil society organisations for dialogue on the issue.

The statement said: “The CP wishes to use this medium to inform the good people of Osun State, especially the youths that, investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Afolabi Abiola is ongoing; as he promised to make the outcome of the matter public.

“He urges everyone to believe in police and allow justice to take its course, as he met with the state government and CSOs in the state to do justice to the matter.

“While urging the youths, individuals or groups who are still planning to embark on a protest to jettison it, he urges members of the public to go about their lawful duties, as police will not relent in discharging its constitutional responsibility of protecting life and property.”

It would be recalled that Abiola was shot in the leg by a police officer in Osogbo on Sunday in front of his house for allegedly being an armed robber.

He was later confirmed dead as a result of the gunshot injury.
