Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have embarked on two weeks warning strike to press home their demands from the Osun State government.
The union, who made this known in a letter signed by its chairman, Dr. Fatai Afolabi and addressed to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, a copy of the letter which was sighted by Western Post in Osogbo on Wednesday, said the warning strike takes effect from Monday 14th March, 2022.
The union further said it commenced the two weeks warning strike during which the seriousness on the part of the state government would be re-evaluated.
It would be recalled that the union had given an ultimatum of 21days in a letter dated 15th December, 2021 as well as another 7days ultimatum in a letter dated 2nd February, 2022 for the government to meet the demands of the lecturers.
The letter reads: “The decision of our Congress to embark on this warning strike is connected to our unresolved lingering issues that have been severally presented to Osun State government both in writing and meetings with government machineries.
“These unresolved issues are; the implementation of full salary table for tertiary Institutions; 65 years’ retirement age; the year 2019, 2020, and 2021 promotion exercise; payment of 29 months’ half-salary arrears and monthly deduction of May and June 2019, March, April and May 2020, Contributory Pension Scheme.”
The union, however, said it did not embark on the strike to malign the effort of the state government but to press home its demands.
