Osun youth groups disown protest, back Tinubu, Adeleke on Youth Confab

Some youth organizations in Osun State have disassociated themselves from the protest held at the Osun State Secretariat, Abere, on June 24, 2025, describing it as unauthorized and politically motivated to cause tension in the state.

The groups made this known at a joint World Press Conference addressed by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Osun State Chapter, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Osun JCC, and the Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP), Osun Caucus.

It would be recalled that a group known as the Coalition for National Consciousness (CCNC) had staged a protest at the state secretariat, accusing the Commissioner for Youth, Moshood Olagunju, of excluding them from the delegates list for the 2025 National Youth Confab.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo, the Chairman of NYCN Osun State Chapter, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, said the protest was organized by an unregistered and unknown group that was never part of the process leading to the confab.

He explained that only three statutory youth bodies—the NYCN, NANS, and NYP—are officially recognized by the Federal Government to participate in the National Youth Confab, and that the confab slots were fairly allocated with a 50:50 gender representation guideline, which the Commissioner duly followed.

“Let it be known that we reject in totality any attempt to politicize youth representation or disrupt the harmony of our state. These protests are baseless and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public,” Akinbode said.

He further questioned how an unregistered group could demand four slots from the confab committee, claiming involvement in the planning process, which he described as false and misleading.

The youth groups passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the National Youth Confab and promoting youth inclusion, as well as in Governor Ademola Adeleke for fostering a youth-friendly environment in Osun State.
