The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that more than 295,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in Ondo State, as preparations begin for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Toyin Babalola, disclosed this during a press briefing in Akure, where she announced that the CVR exercise will begin in mid-August.

According to Babalola, Ondo State has a total of 2,053,061 registered voters, but only 1,757,205 have collected their PVCs, leaving 295,856 cards yet to be picked up.

She emphasized the importance of voter registration as a key component of the democratic process, enabling citizens to fully participate in elections.

Babalola cautioned that the CVR should not be mistaken as the start of political campaigns, stressing that only the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, can issue an official election notice, which will be done 360 days before the polls, as stipulated by law.

She announced that online pre-registration will commence on August 18, 2025, while physical registration at INEC centres will begin on August 25, 2025.

The REC warned against multiple registrations, noting that it is prohibited under Section 12(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

She added that all 19 registration centres in the state are fully equipped, with INEC Voter Enrolment Devices (IVEDs) available and in good working condition.
