Over 500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.
The event coincided with the distribution of the Ileri Oluwa relief package, organized by Engr. Adekunle Kazeem Fadiran to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Alhaji Arimiyahu Owoade, Chairman of the APC in Ikire, confirmed the defection in a statement. The majority of the defectors hail from Ward Eight, a crucial area in the local government.
Party leaders welcomed the new members, expressing optimism about the APC’s strengthened position ahead of the upcoming local government elections in the state.
Engr. Fadiran, a House of Representatives aspirant for the Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan federal constituency in 2027, used the occasion to empower over 400 constituents by distributing relief funds and food packs.
Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of his community, Fadiran said, “This is my widow’s mite to some of the residents in my constituency. As time goes on, I will reach out to more people in my constituency. This is not the first, and it will not be the last, by God’s grace.”
Fadiran is also known for his philanthropic efforts in Ikire, Apomu, and Ikoyi, extending his reach to remote areas within his constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former PDP leaders from Ward Eight, including Aderogbin Wakeel, Abeeb Sheriff, and others, declared their allegiance to the APC, praising the party for its commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State.
They pledged to ensure that their ward fully supports the APC in future elections, viewing it as a means of rewarding the party for its leadership and developmental efforts.
The event which also had in attendance, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, received the royal endorsement of HRM Olatunde Falabi, the Akire of Ikire, who offered blessings to Fadiran and his team for their ongoing contributions to the development of the town.
