Overconfidence, missed chances led to Kwara Utd’s elimination — Coach Sanni

By Tosin Omojola –
Kwara United’s head coach, Tunde Sanni, has blamed his team’s loss to Ashanti Kotoko, which led to their exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, on the complacency of his players.
The former Kwara United player criticised his team’s attitude after their 1-0 defeat to the Ghanaians in Sunday’s second-leg clash at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
The Harmony Boys went into the return leg needing a win to overturn a 4-3 first-leg defeat in Ghana, but Kotoko sealed qualification with a 54th-minute strike by Hubert Guyau, progressing 5-3 on aggregate.
A disappointed Coach Sanni did not hide his frustration after the game, slamming his players for allowing complacency to creep in.
“Honestly, I am very disappointed in my players. They played like they had nothing to lose and this is very painful. I feel they were overconfident because of the performance they had last week away from home,” he said.
Despite this, Sanni believed his side could have secured victory had his boys converted the numerous chances they created in the encounter.
Meanwhile, the Kwara United handler said the team would immediately regroup and shift full attention to the NPFL campaign.
