Oyebanji orders free medical treatment for freed Ekiti kidnap victims

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has directed the management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, to provide free comprehensive medical screening and treatment for victims recently rescued from captivity following the Eda Oniyo kidnapping incident.

The governor also instructed the state Ministry of Health and Human Services to oversee the welfare and wellbeing of the victims, with the state government covering all medical expenses incurred during their treatment.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Oyebode, the rescued victims are currently receiving treatment at EKSUTH and will remain under medical supervision until they are certified fit to reunite with their families.

Oyebanji expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support in ensuring the safe return of the victims.

He also commended the heads of security agencies in the state, the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, leaders of the Eda Oniyo community, the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and other stakeholders for their contributions to securing the victims’ release.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged those politicising the incident on social media to desist and instead support the government’s efforts to build a safer and more prosperous state.

He also extended his condolences to the family of one of the victims who died while in captivity.
