Oyebanji remains committed to empowering PWDs community – Agboola
The Special Adviser to Governor Biodin Oyebanji on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Adetoun Agbaoola, has said the governor remains committed to empowering Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Ekiti State.
Agboola announced a forthcoming financial assistance programme for PWDs, scheduled for January 2025.
She made this annocement during the graduation and empowerment ceremony held at the Skill Acquisition Centre in Ilokun, Ado-Ekiti.
Agboola commended Governor Oyebanji’s unwavering support, stating, “If anyone says Governor Oyebanji is not doing anything for PWDs, do not believe them. His work speaks for itself, and he remains dedicated to empowering the PWD community.”
She encouraged the graduates to utilise their tools effectively, adding, “Make good use of the equipment you have received today and apply the knowledge gained during your training.”
Meanwhile, Dr Ebenezer Ogunlade, Chairman of the Office of Disability Affairs, praised Oyebanji’s inclusive policies and encouraged PWDs to pursue their aspirations with determination.
“Pursue your dreams with confidence and determination. You can achieve whatever you set your mind to,”
He reaffirmed the state government commitment to empowering persons with disabilities through vocational training and essential support, fostering self-reliance and economic independence.
Ogunlade further urged the graduates to focus on their abilities, saying, “Do not dwell on societal perceptions. Each of you has the potential to excel in your chosen career.”
The event celebrated 40 PWDs who completed training in five key fields: shoemaking, ICT, cosmetology and hairdressing, catering and hospitality, and tailoring and fashion design.
The graduates were provided with tools and equipment to kickstart their careers, which Ogunlade described as a testament to the government’s commitment to inclusivity and skill development.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Peju Babafemi, highlighted the collaboration between ministries and disability-focused offices, which has yielded significant results for all disability clusters.
