Oyebanji sends list of Ekiti commissioner nominees to House of Assembly

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has submitted the list of nominees for commissioner positions to the state House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, announced the list during plenary on Tuesday – the first one since the Seventh Assembly’s inauguration on June 6.

The Speaker revealed that the screening process would begin on Monday, July 3. The nominees are expected to appear before the legislators for the screening.

Aribasoye, reading the Governor’s communication dated June 26, directed the Assembly’s Clerk to ensure that each nominee provides the House with thirty (30) copies of their Curriculum Vitae (CVs) no later than Friday, June 30.

The Speaker noted that the screening of the commissioners-designate would take place on a senatorial district basis. Nominees from Ekiti North will be screened first, followed by nominees from Ekiti South, and lastly, nominees from Ekiti Central.

To ensure a comprehensive process, the Speaker revealed that a maximum of three nominees would be questioned each day until the entire list is reviewed.

Based on the list announced by the Speaker, Ado, Efon, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ido/Osi, and Ayekire local government areas have two commissioner nominees each. Nine other council areas have one nominee each.

The nominees are Mrs. Tosin and Mrs. Tayo Adeola (Ado), Rt. Hon. Karonwi Oladapo and Mrs. Peju Babafemi (Efon), Prof. Ojo Bakare (Ekiti West), Hon. Ojo Atibioke (Ijero), and Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun and Mr. Adebayo Ajisola (Irepodun/Ifelodun).

The Speaker also said that the approval of 10 Special Advisers would be done concurrently with the commissioners’ appointments.

Governor Oyebanji stated that submitting the list signifies his intention to expand the State Executive Council by appointing Commissioners to enhance service delivery to the people of Ekiti State.

Ikole LGA already has two serving commissioners: Dr. Oyebanji Filani (Health and Human Services) and Mr. Akintunde Oyebode (Finance and Economic Development). Oye LGA is already represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata, SAN.

The three commissioners were sworn in alongside nine Special Advisers shortly after Governor Oyebanji assumed office on October 16, last year.
