Oyetola advocates entrenchment of right values among youths as panacea to get-rich-quick syndrome

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola , has charged traditional religion worshippers in the state to continue to inculcate right values in the young people as leaders of tomorrow.

According to him, this would help the society in no small way to reduce many of social vices presently rampant among the younger generation.

Oyetola made the call in Osogbo on Thursday at the foundation-laying ceremony of phase one of the state Secretariat Complex of the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association (TRWASO).

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, further enjoined the adherents to rededicate efforts to propagating those cultural values that give Yoruba race a distinct identity.

He stressed that traditional religion, being an earliest religion is predicated on cherished cultural orientation with inherent commitment towards a progressive society.

Oyetola, then commended TRWASO and its members for the huge support being given to his administration and the commendable roles they have been playing to sustain religious harmony in the state.

He said: “It is a thing of pride that since we assumed office, we have enjoyed relative peace among all the three dominant religions in our state, with each working assiduously to support the state government in keeping faith with the profile of our State as our country’s most peaceful and secure state.

“As the religion of our forebears, worshippers of the traditional religion are particularly noted for their sound cultural orientation and commitment to all that makes for a progressive society. It is therefore not surprising to note the admirable conduct that exemplifies your participation in our society.

“Having said this, however, I urge you not to rest on your oars in not only championing worthy causes that will accelerate socioeconomic development in our state, but to also rededicate efforts to propagating the cultural ethos and values that make the Yoruba race distinct.

“In this regard, you should continue to consider it an important duty to equip our young people with the right values, and also, rid them of such inimical vices as ritual killing, quick-wealth syndrome, among others.”

In his remarks, the President of TRWASO, Dr Oluseyi Atanda, said the foundation laying ceremony of the Secretariat Complex of the association was in fulfilment and realisation of one of the cardinal agenda of the association.

He commended the state government for supporting the association at all times.
