Oyetola asks supporters to remain calm after losing reelection

…urges security operatives to ensure law, order

Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has urged his supporters to remain calm after losing his re-election bid.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the 2022 Osun State governorship election and the Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe declared Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party the winner of the election.

In his first public statement since the declaration, Oyetola in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan said the All Progressives Congress was still studying the results of the election.

He asked supporters to go on with their business without hindrance.

“Osun Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adegboyega Oyetola has taken cognisance of the results of the governorship election in the State as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday.

“He, however, noted that the party would be responding appropriately after studying the results and consulting with critical stakeholders of the party.

“Oyetola called on his supporters to remain calm, and the people of the State to go about their businesses without let or hindrance.

“The Governor also called on security operatives to ensure maintenance of law and order. He, has therefore, directed security operatives to take adequate charge so as to prevent break down of law and order,” the statement read in part.

Adeleke polled 403,371 votes against Oyetola’s 375,027 votes to claim victory, winning in 17 out of the 30 Local Government Areas in the state.
