Oyintiloye raises alarm over deplorable Ibadan–Gbongan road

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has raised the alarm over the worsening state of the Ibadan–Gbongan road, describing it as a death trap.

Speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said the road linking Oyo, Osun and Ondo states has deteriorated to the point of becoming a major threat to road users. He warned that continued neglect of the road would pose greater risks, especially during the festive period when more commuters are expected to ply the route.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, appealed to the federal government to urgently intervene before the road completely collapses, noting that motorists now abandon one lane of the dual carriageway due to its deplorable condition.

The APC chieftain said the numerous deep potholes on the road, which serves as a vital link between the South-West and other parts of the country, have made it almost impassable.

“I want to appeal to the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently find a solution and fix this road. Every part of it is almost impassable, and this is causing untold hardship for motorists. In this festive season, traffic volume will increase, and without emergency repairs, motorists might face more hardship and insecurity,” he said.

Oyintiloye commended the federal government for its Renewed Hope infrastructure drive but stressed that immediate attention must be given to the road to safeguard the lives and well-being of Nigerians.

“Due to the terrible condition of the road, the dual carriageway has been converted into a single lane. This is not good for the safety of road users, especially at this period. A good road network will help the nation sustain economic growth, create jobs, improve economic activities and enhance the quality of life of the people,” he added.

He urged the federal government to fast-track the rehabilitation and reconstruction of all roads requiring urgent attention as the festive season approaches.
