Oyo 2025 budget now ₦984bn as Assembly passes supplementary bill

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed a ₦299.8 billion supplementary budget, bringing the total size of the 2025 budget to ₦984 billion.
The approval followed Thursday’s plenary session, during which Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola (Egbeda Constituency), explained that the additional funding was needed to cover critical areas not captured in the initial budget.
Key provisions in the supplementary budget include the reconstruction of the Government House, payment of workers’ pensions, and implementation of the newly approved national minimum wage.
Shortly after passing the bill, the Assembly declared the start of its annual working recess. Lawmakers are expected to use the break to carry out oversight visits to their constituencies, monitoring the implementation of state-funded projects and compliance with budget provisions.
Hon. Babalola noted that the revised budget aims to address infrastructure gaps and strengthen social welfare programmes in response to economic pressures and inflation.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier presented the original ₦684.1 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year in late 2024. That budget was passed before the Assembly approved the supplementary request.
In a related development, Speaker Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin introduced the Oyo State Unplanned Pregnancy and Unsafe Abortion Prevention and Regulation Bill, 2025, for its First Reading.
The proposed legislation seeks to reduce unplanned pregnancies, promote reproductive health education, and establish a regulatory framework to manage related issues across the state.
