Oyo 2027: Shittu declares himself most experienced APC governorship aspirant

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has declared himself the most qualified All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, citing his extensive political experience.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Shittu said he stands out among the party’s aspirants, stressing that his record in public service gives him a clear edge.

“I pray that God will enable me to get the party’s ticket. Of about 10 aspirants in APC, I am the most senior,” he said.

Tracing his political journey, Shittu recalled joining the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s political movement in the 1970s before serving in various capacities, including lawmaker in the old Oyo State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture in 1983, and Attorney-General of Oyo State in 2007. He later served as Minister of Communications in the federal cabinet.

He also highlighted his contributions to President Bola Tinubu’s election campaign, noting that he coordinated over 1,100 support groups nationwide “without taking a kobo from anybody.”

On speculations of defections within the APC to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Shittu dismissed such reports, insisting that he remains firmly with the ruling party.

“I am too experienced for that,” he said, stressing his confidence in clinching the APC governorship ticket for Oyo in 2027.
