Oyo abduction: Eight kidnappers arrested, others neutralised — Presidency

The Presidency has said security forces arrested eight suspected kidnappers and neutralised several others during the operation that led to the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The development was disclosed by Olusegun Dada, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, in a post on his X account on Friday.
According to Dada, the eight suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), while security agencies are expected to provide further details on the operation.
“Security forces say in the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised on the spot. More updates from security agencies soon,” Dada wrote.
The update came hours after Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced on his X account that the abducted pupils and teachers had regained their freedom after weeks in captivity.
The victims were abducted in May when heavily armed gunmen attacked schools in Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping dozens of pupils and teachers. The incident sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the security of schools across the country, prompting intensified rescue efforts by security agencies.
