Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have agreed to adopt a zoning arrangement ahead of the party’s nationwide state congress scheduled to hold on Tuesday.
The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at the party’s secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
To facilitate the process, the stakeholders constituted an adhoc zoning committee saddled with the responsibility of allocating executive positions among the 33 local government areas of the state.
The committee is chaired by Fatai Ibikunle, while Afeez Bolaji Repete was appointed to serve as secretary. Other members of the committee include Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade and Akeem Olatunji.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party commended members for demonstrating commitment to peace and harmony, while urging them to sustain the spirit of unity as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, stakeholders agreed to retain the consensus approach earlier adopted during the ward and local government congresses, noting that the zoning committee had already commenced work and would soon communicate allocated positions to each local government chapter.
In addition, party leaders from across the 33 councils were directed to meet immediately after receiving the zoning details and forward nominees for mandatory screening by a special committee from Abuja.
The party further expressed confidence in the nomination and screening processes, assuring that it would be concluded within schedule, ahead of the unveiling and inauguration of the new State Executive Committee at the main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium on Tuesday in Ibadan.
