Oyo APC protests alleged intimidation of lawmaker over ₦300bn loan criticism

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday held a peaceful protest in Ibadan over what it described as the victimisation of one of its lawmakers, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu.

The protest, which began at the APC secretariat in Oke-Ado, was led by the state chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, and attended by other party members.

Shittu, who represents Saki West State Constituency, recently criticised the Oyo State House of Assembly’s approval of a ₦300 billion loan request by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The lawmaker, elected on the APC platform in 2023, alleged that he had been receiving threats since making the comments.

Speaking during the rally, Abas said the protest was organised to show solidarity with Shittu and to demand his protection.

“We are here to support him for taking a bold step to stand against the loan. We are also saying the governor should account for previous loans before seeking new ones,” he said.

The APC chairman further stated that the party had submitted a protest letter and warned against any attempt to intimidate the lawmaker.
