The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a 14-member reconciliation committee to unite governorship aspirants and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee is chaired by former Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and is expected to reconcile aggrieved aspirants following the party’s governorship primary, and mobilise support for its candidate, Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli. Oher members of the committee include former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Chief Mrs. Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, Dr. Felicia Adekemi Opatunde, Prof. Afolabi Oladapo, Alhaji Abubakar Adejare Gbadamosi, Senator Brimo Yusuf, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, Pa Timothy Jolaoso, Engr. Idris Adegboyega Adeoye, Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi and Rt. Hon. Olagunju Ojo.
According to the party, the committee has been mandated to engage all the governorship aspirants who purchased the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms and contested the primary election in a bid to address any perceived grievances and secure the support of the aspirants for the party’s governorship candidate.
In a statement jointly signed by the Oyo APC Chairman and former Deputy Governor, Dr. Moses Alake Adeyemo, and the State Secretary, Barr. Fatal Adesina, the party said the reconciliation effort is aimed at fostering unity and positioning the APC for victory in the 2027 governorship election.
The statement stressed that unity remains critical to the party’s success, noting that a divided political party would struggle to achieve its electoral goals. It therefore urged members of the committee to deploy their experience, influence and leadership qualities to ensure that all differences among aspirants are resolved amicably.
The party also disclosed that the committee would engage the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, describing him as a key stakeholder and respected party leader whose support is important to the success of the reconciliation process. It added that the committee enjoys the backing of the party’s national leadership as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The APC further announced that similar reconciliation committees would soon be constituted for aspirants seeking National Assembly and Oyo State House of Assembly tickets. According to the party, the inauguration of the various committees will take place in the coming days as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
