Oyo Assembly embarks on oversight of LGAs, LCDAs statewide

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The Oyo State House of Assembly has commenced a comprehensive oversight visit across the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. The exercise is part of its constitutional mandate to promote transparency, accountability, and effective grassroots development.
The oversight focuses on assessing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), budget implementation, expenditures, and the status of capital projects, including internal roads, primary health centres, school infrastructure under SUBEB, and local security systems.
Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters, and State Honours, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, who leads the overall oversight exercise, emphasized the lawmakers’ commitment to ensuring prudent resource management. He urged local council chairmen to align with Governor Seyi Makinde’s development agenda.
Speaking during the visit to Ogbomoso South LGA, Olajide stated, “The lawmakers are fully committed to supporting grassroots development. This oversight is a vital part of our role in ensuring that government efforts at the local level yield results.”
Hon. Olusola Owolabi, representing Ibadan North 2 and heading the Oyo North team, advised council administrators to uphold transparency and prioritize the timely execution of projects and delivery of essential services.
In the same vein, Hon. Dele Adeola, who leads the Oyo Central team, urged local government leaders to embrace creative governance strategies, including engaging in public-private partnerships to drive development.
Council chairmen from Ogbomoso South, Atiba, and Olorunsogo LGAs — Hon. Oyedokun Timothy, Hon. Waliu Adetunji, and Hon. Kazeem Olayanju — commended Governor Makinde for his inclusive leadership and the developmental progress recorded in their areas.
Earlier, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, had announced the creation of three zonal sub-committees to coordinate the exercise. Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin leads the South, Hon. Dele Adeola oversees the Central, and Hon. Olusola Owolabi heads the Northern zone.
