Oyo Assembly hits back at APC over alleged intimidation of lawmaker

By Adejayan Gbenga –

The Oyo State House of Assembly has dismissed claims that it intimidated Hon. Ibrahim Shittu of the Saki West State Constituency following the recent approval of a ₦300 billion loan facility.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had alleged that supporters of Governor Seyi Makinde were plotting to intimidate the lawmaker.

In response, Waheed Akintayo, Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs, and ICT, described the allegations as “false, mischievous, and ill-conceived.”

He accused the APC of politicizing legislative activities through what he called “defective preemptive tactics.”

Akintayo further emphasized that the Assembly has operated peacefully since 2019, adhering to democratic principles, fairness, and due process.

He clarified that the ₦300 billion loan facility was approved transparently and is intended for critical infrastructure and socio-economic development.

Akintayo urged the APC to stop fear-mongering, adopt a constructive approach to opposition, and focus on the growth and progress of Oyo State. He stressed that all lawmakers are treated fairly, irrespective of party affiliation.
