Oyo Assembly summons Lands Ministry officials over allegations of fraud

The Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned officials of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to appear before its Committee on Lands and Survey over allegations of fraudulent and irregular land transactions.
The directive was issued by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, during Tuesday’s plenary session. He said the invitation became necessary following reports of questionable land dealings within the ministry.
The committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, and will engage key ministry officials, surveyors, and other stakeholders to uncover the truth behind the allegations and promote transparency in land administration.
Ogundoyin emphasized that the Assembly remains committed to ensuring accountability and due process in public service, particularly in sectors that directly impact citizens’ livelihoods and investments.
The development comes amid protests in parts of Ibadan by property owners affected by the 113-kilometre Ibadan Circular Road project. Many of them have accused government agencies of unfair treatment and lack of clarity in the land acquisition process.
The outcome of Thursday’s meeting is expected to determine the Assembly’s next steps, which may include disciplinary actions or policy reforms to address the identified irregularities.
