The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed a motion to celebrate veteran Yoruba actor, Chief Lere Paimo, popularly known as Eda Onile Ola, for his outstanding contributions to the promotion of Yoruba culture through theatre.

The motion was presented during the Assembly’s Yoruba plenary session on Wednesday by the Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin (Ogbomoso South).

It urged the State Government to recognize and honour the octogenarian actor, Chief Lere Paimo, who is among the most senior figures in the industry.

The motion also called on the government to honour other veteran actors who have significantly impacted the Yoruba theatre industry.

In addition, it advocated for government support in producing traditional Yoruba plays that promote wisdom and good character, and for integrating such productions into the state’s cultural tourism agenda.

Hon. Adedoyin expressed concern that modern film productions have strayed from Yoruba ethical values, often favoring foreign influences over indigenous moral storytelling.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, acknowledged the vital contributions of Yoruba actors and assured that the Assembly would take the necessary steps to implement the resolutions in the motion.
