Oyo condemns illegal construction of shops, shanties

The Oyo State Government has expressed disapproval of the construction of shops and shanties in unauthorized locations across the state.
Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, criticized the practice during an official monitoring visit to Lagelu and Egbeda Local Government Council Areas.
His remarks were conveyed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, who decried the alarming rate at which illegal structures are emerging.
“The ministry’s staff should immediately issue evacuation notices to the offending owners along Carlton Gate Estate, Chief Kolapo Isola Estate through Akobo Ojurin, Iyana Church, Ibadan,” Oyelade stated.
In compliance with this directive, the evacuation notices have already been issued to the owners of these unlawful businesses and shantytowns.
In addition, building contractors have been instructed to cease leaving construction tools and materials on the main roads.
During a surveillance operation in the Idi-Arere neighborhood of Ibadan, Mogbonjubola observed that construction debris and machinery were causing significant traffic congestion.
He condemned these actions, highlighting the government’s commitment to maintaining the state’s infrastructure.
“The government is investing substantial funds in constructing roads and drainage systems. We will not stand by and allow these investments to be undermined by the careless behavior of individuals or groups,” Mogbonjubola declared.
He emphasized that the government will impose sanctions on those who continue to place construction equipment on metropolitan roads, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to uphold environmental standards.
