The Oyo State Government has donated 90 hectares of land along the Ibadan–Oyo Road in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area, to the federal government to facilitate the construction of the proposed Moniya Inland Dry Port.
Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, made the presentation during a handover ceremony at the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. He said the project would significantly boost the state’s economy by enhancing agricultural value chains, promoting industrialisation, and improving infrastructure development.
Governor Makinde explained that the dry port would also help decongest Lagos ports and ease cargo clearance, urging stakeholders to support the Federal Government to ensure the project’s timely completion.
Representing the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Tpl. Oloruntola Michael Olufemi, described the project as a strategic initiative aimed at bringing shipping services closer to importers and exporters while stimulating economic growth across the Southwest.
He commended Governor Makinde’s “patriotic gesture” and alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the donation underscores a shared vision for trade expansion and regional competitiveness.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Akutar Ukiyama, represented by Alhaji Ahmodu Yahyah, also commended the State Government’s support, saying the port would generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boost internally generated revenue, and enhance logistics and agricultural productivity.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, assured that the state would provide an enabling environment for smooth project execution.
Other dignitaries present included the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Segun Olayiwola; Commissioner for Trade and Industry, Mr. Adeniyi Adebisi; and Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe.
