The Oyo State Fire Service on Thursday afternoon successfully battled a fire outbreak that destroyed six shops in the Sawmill area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The incident, which occurred at Ile-Ewe, affected six out of ten locked-up shops before firefighters arrived to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said a team led by Chief Fire Superintendent Dairo responded promptly and arrived at the scene by 2:14 p.m.
“Upon arrival, six shops were already engulfed in flames. Our team acted swiftly to stop the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby buildings,” Akinwande said.
He noted that while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, the intervention of the fire service helped to save several others.
No lives were lost in the incident, and authorities say an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
