Oyo government demolishes abandoned hostel to make way for security base

The Oyo State Government has begun the demolition of the long-abandoned De Castle Inn, a former hostel located along the busy Total Garden axis in Ibadan.

On Saturday, heavy-duty machinery and demolition crews were seen pulling down the dilapidated structure, which had reportedly become a hideout for criminals and an eyesore in the area.

Sources revealed that the land, along with an adjacent property, is being cleared to serve as a new operational base for the state’s security outfits. It is expected to house an armoury and training ground for the Amotekun Corps and also serve the state-backed security unit, Operation Burst.

Though an official statement is yet to be issued, the project is believed to be part of the government’s ongoing urban renewal and public safety drive aimed at reclaiming and repurposing disused properties.

More details are expected from state authorities in the coming days on the full scope and impact of the initiative.
