The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving the welfare of industrial workers through industry-friendly policies and active monitoring of labour rights.
The statement was made during a sensitisation visit to Nigerian Breweries and the Nigerian Bottling Company (Coca-Cola) on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Hon. Adebisi Adeniyi.
According to the Commissioner, the visit formed part of the routine activities of the Industrial Crisis Management Committee, established by Governor Seyi Makinde to ensure that workers’ welfare is protected across companies operating in the state.
The Commissioner, represented by the Director of Industry, Engr. Mrs. Majeedat Olanrewaju, emphasized that the committee’s mandate includes fostering a good relationship between employers and employees while addressing disparities in welfare conditions between permanent and contract staff.
During the visit, Hon. Adeniyi highlighted welfare and safety concerns, as well as the maintenance of industrial peace, as core priorities of the committee. He urged the management of NBC to expand restaurant facilities to ensure healthier and more hygienic dining environments for staff.
At Nigerian Breweries, officials including Brewery Manager Seun Akinwale and Corporate Affairs Manager (West & Midwest), Danjuma John-Ekele, stressed that worker safety, proper remuneration, and comprehensive welfare packages remain top priorities for both permanent and outsourced staff.
Union leaders at both organisations, including Comrade Festus Olubiyo of Nigerian Breweries and Comrade Lanbe Lukman of NBC, commended the smooth working relationship between staff and management, noting the positive industrial harmony in the companies.
The visit included inspections of restaurants, changing rooms, production lines, and restroom facilities. Company representatives reaffirmed their readiness to comply with government policies and collaborate to enhance trade and workers’ welfare in Oyo State.
