Oyo govt records 2,215 land grabbing petitions in two years

The Oyo State Government says it has received 2,215 petitions related to the forceful takeover of landed properties in the state since 2023.

Chairman of the Oyo State Real Property Protection Law Agency, Hon. Justice Olajumoke Aiki (rtd), disclosed this in Ibadan on Friday, noting that 860 petitions have been successfully resolved, while 143 cases have been arraigned in court and 480 offenders prosecuted.

Justice Aiki added that 3,363 petition forms have so far been obtained by residents seeking redress, with 125 cases currently under review. She said the agency remains committed to ensuring justice and fairness in land dispute resolution under the Oyo State Real Property Protection Law, 2016.

Commending Governor Seyi Makinde for his support, Aiki noted that the agency’s achievements were made possible through the government’s provision of funds, logistics, and operational autonomy.

Recent commendations have come from prominent citizens, including the Balogun Iyalode of Ibadanland, Chief (Mrs.) Taye Soyege, and the Religious Sisters of Charity under the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, for the agency’s professionalism and transparency in handling disputes.

Justice Aiki reaffirmed that the agency would continue to pursue fairness and uphold integrity in addressing land grabbing across Oyo State.
