The Oyo State Government has urged private companies to prioritize the welfare and safety of their workers, noting that a healthy workforce is essential for economic growth and social stability.

The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Commerce, and Cooperatives, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, gave the charge on Tuesday during an engagement and sensitization visit by the Oyo State Industrial Crisis Management Team to production companies in Ibadan.

Represented by the Director of Industry, Engr. Majeedat Olanrewaju, the commissioner said the visit was aimed at improving workplace safety, protecting workers’ rights, and preventing industrial disputes in the state.

He explained that the initiative also provided an opportunity for the team to interact with company management and labour representatives, assess welfare provisions, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Adebisi reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to fostering an investor-friendly environment, stressing that the outreach was designed to ensure private firms in the state respect employee rights and operate under safe conditions.

During the visit, the team inspected factories and facilities, including staff clinics, toilets, canteens, fire control systems, and first aid equipment, to evaluate compliance with safety regulations.

Management teams of the companies visited commended the government for establishing the crisis management team, noting that it would help prevent disputes between employers and workers. They also praised Governor Makinde for sustaining a business-friendly atmosphere in the state.

Companies visited during the exercise included NOURDM Global Company Ltd., UGEE Chemical Ltd., and Polyfilm Packaging, all located in Ibadan.
