The Oyo State government has issued a stern warning to about 20 waste management consultants who have failed to meet the terms of agreement to dispose of refuse in the State.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Arc. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, gave the warning on Sunday after a meeting with the consultants in Ibadan.
Mogbonjubola, in a statement by the commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade stated that the government’s primary goal of contracting the collection of waste in the State was to ensure a clean environment for the residents.
He expressed disappointment that some consultants have not kept to the terms of agreement.for months, resulting in dirt littering major streets of Ibadan.
The Commissioner therefore said the Oyo State Government has established a comprehensive review and renewal of the waste management consultant’s contract to ensure improved service delivery and compliance with environmental regulations.
According to him, the review process, held on Thursday and Friday at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Secretariat, Ibadan, aims to assess the consultant’s performance, identify areas for improvement, and enhance the efficiency of waste management services across the State.
Mogbonjubola emphasized that the evaluation focuses on key performance indicators, including operational efficiency, financial compliance, regulatory adherence, innovation, sustainability, and transparency.
He clarified that the review is not a witch-hunt but a necessary step to ensure that public concerns are addressed and service delivery is optimized.
