The Oyo State Government has vowed to crack down on crime, assuring residents of adequate security and the protection of lives and property.

The State Security Council issued the warning on Thursday at a press briefing following an Expanded Security Council meeting presided over by Governor Seyi Makinde at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Speaking after the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, CP Fatai Owoseni (Rtd), stated that the session was convened to holistically assess the state’s security situation based on feedback from various leadership levels.

Owoseni urged residents to take security matters seriously and assured them of a prompt response to any concerns. He also encouraged them to utilize the toll-free 615 security hotline in emergencies.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, emphasized that the Council resolved to avoid ethnic profiling in addressing crime, affirming that every Nigerian has the right to reside peacefully in any part of the country.

Adenola further stated that the Council mandated all miners operating in the state to obtain proper licenses.

The police chief warned criminals, including bandits and cultists, to desist from unlawful activities, stressing that the long arm of the law would catch up with them if they failed to comply.
