Oyo lawmaker represents Nigeria at Global Youth Parliament in Lima

The lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North, South, and Orire Federal Constituency, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, represented Nigeria at the 11th Inter-Parliamentary Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians held in Lima, Peru.

The conference, themed “Uniting Generations for Gender Equality,” brought together young lawmakers from around the world to share ideas and develop strategies for promoting gender balance in governance.

Speaking at the event, Alao-Akala emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing the underrepresentation of women in politics. He noted that Nigeria’s National Assembly is currently pursuing legislative reforms, including the Reserved Seats for Women Bill, which he described as a significant step toward inclusive political representation.

During the conference, the Nigerian lawmaker also held talks with the President of the Congress of Peru, José E. Jeri, along with other parliamentarians committed to advancing gender equality and inclusive governance.

Alao-Akala said the conference provided a valuable platform to engage with global peers, exchange best practices, and strengthen parliamentary collaboration on issues of common interest.
