Oyo LG polls: Be active in choosing your leaders, Makinde urges voters

By Innocent Raphael
In an effort to ensure the people’s will is represented in the ongoing Local Government elections, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday, has urged residents of the state to come out en-masse to perform their civic responsibility.
The governor made this appeal while speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote at Ward 1, Unit 11 in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of the state.
Makinde also reminded the people of the need to actively be involved in the process of choosing their leaders.
According to reports of observers who monitored the election, many eligible voters had declined to participate in the ongoing exercise, for reasons yet to be ascertained.
As a result, many have expressed fears the low turnout would affect the outcome of the results, prompting the governor to make the appeal.
Recall that the State Independent Electoral Commission had fixed Saturday, April 27, 2024, for the council’s poll exercise.
The ongoing local government election is expected to be concluded at 3:pm.
