Oyo PDP chieftain Abidikugu defects to ADC

By Adejayan Gbenga –

A grassroots politician and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Pa Tiamiyu Abidikugu, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), taking along numerous supporters.

Abidikugu announced his decision on Tuesday, citing the persistent absence of internal democracy, fairness, transparency, and discipline in the PDP at both state and national levels.

Speaking at a declaration rally, he said the move followed “deep reflection and consultation” with his political base and family.

“Across all levels of the party structure, lack of sincerity, fairness, and anti-party activities have become the norm, unchecked and even encouraged by those who should uphold the founding principles,” he stated.

He described the PDP as a shadow of its former self, where a few individuals dictate the fate of members without proper consultation with local leaders, youths, and the grassroots.

Abidikugu said the ADC offers a platform where all citizens can aspire and lead without fear or discrimination, regardless of political background.

ADC State Chairman, Alhaji Yinka Olona, who presented the party flag to Abidikugu, called the defection a “painful day” for the PDP but a welcome development for the ADC. He pledged that the ADC would uphold discipline, structure, and fairness ahead of the 2027 elections.

ADC candidate for the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Dr. Femi Dexter Akin-Alamu, praised Abidikugu’s arrival, saying it would strengthen the party’s chances.
