The Oyo State Police Command has bolstered security efforts by deploying additional personnel along the route.
This is in response to the recent surge in kidnapping and robbery incidents along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Olu-Ode of Oyo State, commonly known as Ege, confirmed the proactive steps taken by stating, “We have engaged with the leadership of the Oyo State Police Command to address the escalating cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities within the state. Through collaborative efforts with law enforcement, we aim to root out criminals from their hideouts.”
In a related development, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has strongly condemned the abduction of 13 individuals from Piko, a remote community in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), by suspected gunmen.
HURIWA further urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of security emergency in the FCT, advocating for the deployment of a specialized team comprising well-trained and well-equipped joint armed forces to all six area councils of the FCT.
The group added that to curb the rising criminality that threatens the peace and security of the nation’s capital, any infringement upon the rights of individuals by terrorists should be met with stiff sanctions.
