Oyo politician Olopoeyan breaks silence on PDP membership, APC defection rumours

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Prominent Oyo State politician, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, has refuted claims linking him to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that he is no longer a member of the party.

Olopoeyan, who made the clarification in a WhatsApp group discussion, said he had yet to decide which political platform he would join after parting ways with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

His reaction followed viral photos showing him in the United Kingdom with leading figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former Oyo First Lady, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, and former APC governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin.

The pictures, which circulated online over the weekend, sparked widespread speculation that the Ibadan-born politician might be planning to defect to the APC.

However, Olopoeyan explained that the meeting in the UK was purely social and should not be interpreted as a political alliance or endorsement.

“Meeting with APC chieftains doesn’t mean I am joining the APC. As of now, I am not in any political party, but soon, my decision will be made known,” he said.

He also cautioned journalists and political commentators against referring to him as a PDP chieftain, stressing that such descriptions were misleading and outdated.

“Addressing me as a PDP chieftain doesn’t count anymore,” Olopoeyan added, noting that his next political direction would be made public at the appropriate time.
